Jamestown

Today we were in Jamestown! That was pretty cool! We went to the Settlement which is where they have recreated historical Jamestown. This ship had 54 passengers (and I dunno how many sailors). This face statue thang is part of a face circle from John Whites drawings. No one is really sure of the purpose.

We went to the actual site of Jamestowne (yeah the old one has an e and the new one doesn't--go figure) As part of it there was an Archaism (an archeology museum) there were skeletons and all manner of weird things...including a teeth/scraper/fingernail cleaner/earwax cleaner in the shape of a strange dolphin.

I am actually not sure who the statue is...oh wait, I think it is Pocahontas. Who...as it turns out was ten, bald and naked (as was traditional for children) when the settlers came, not a beautiful princess with long flowing hair.

I really like this speed limit sign because not only is it a random number, but it is on a pedestrian path...

We went to a performance at the College of William and Mary tonight. It was really interesting. I think I would have probably been a loyalist...which is a strange thought. The actors showed us the turmoil before the decision to declare independence.
